Something different

Over many years now, more has been reported about the Sasquatch than the Yeti. This was the opposite when the wildman first got news coverage. Many people think they are the same species, but their footprint structure is different. The Sasquatch are more humanlike in appearance and design while the Yeti look more apelike. The top photograph is of mountaineer Eric Shipton who in the early 1950's found and photographed a line of Yeti tracks. The next photograph is a single track in the line Shipton found. The third picture is the line of tracks Shipton found. The fourth picture is of a plaster cast I have of a Yeti track. This cast is not an actual casting of one of the Yeti footprints, but an artists rendition of one of the prints photographed.

  1. Hello there!
I am afraid I must tell you that the plaster cast of the track you have illustrated is nothing but a sculpted representation of the track and not a cast of the original track at all. I have handled Ivan Sanderson's copy of the footprint cast in both the negative and opsitive, and the sole of the foot is nowhere nearly as smooth as this cast makes out: there are noticeable irregularities to it. If you examin the photo and the outlines of your cast, you shall see that they do not match. Ivan sanderson had a copy of the footprint cast in cement after the photo was taken: the British museum has the original cement replica. The positive copy was made by making a latex copy out of the cement track cast in cement and the latex presumably would have corresponded to the original foot. The latex copy was made at SITU headquarters shortly after Ivan's death. Among its other odd features is the fact that the bottom of the track did not lie flat but was distinctly lopsided and deeper at the outer edge.

    Best Wishes, Dale D.

PS, the latex version would be decayed and useless if it was still around, I am sorry to say: Latex does not preserve well over a matter of several decades.

    1. Thanks Dale, I appreciate the update. The source where I got this cast did not have much information about were it came from, I am happy to be able to update my information! Thanks again.
