One of the most frequent questions I have been asked over the years is, "If the Sasquatch exists, why has one never been captured or killed?". Thats a very good question, and the answers are always either overlooked or ignored. I will post several blog entries that are actually quite old stories, but very good ones that demonstrate some answers to this question. This first one involves a young Sasquatch that was captured near Yale British Columbia by a train crew in 1882. Here is the text of that newspaper article:
What is it?

A strange creature captured above Yale
------------------------------------------------------
A British Columbia Gorilla
(Correspondence of the Colonist)
Yale, B.C., July 3rd, 1882
"In the immediate vicinity of No. 4 tunnel situated some twenty miles above this village, are bluffs of rock which have hitherto been insurmountable, but on Monday morning last were successfully scaled by Mr. Onderdonk's employees on their regular train from Lytton. Assisted by Mr. Costerton, the British Columbia Express Company's messenger, and a number of gentlemen from Lytton and points east of that place, who, after considerable trouble and perilous" climbing, succeeded in capturing a creature, which may truley be called half man and half beast. "Jacko," as the creature has been called by its capturers, is something of the Gorilla type standing about four feet seven inches in height and weighing 127 pounds. He has long, black, strong hair and resembles a human being with one exception, his entire body, excepting his hands, (or paws) and feet are covered with glossy hair about one inch long. His forearm is much longer than a man's and he possesses extra-ordinary strength, as he will take hold of a stick and break it by wrenching or twisting it, which no man living could break in the same way. (note the "wrenching or twisting" I posted as territorial marking by Sasquatch's in a previous blog).
Since his capture he is very reticent, only occasionally uttering a noise, which is half bark and half growl. He is, however, becoming more attached to his keeper, Mr. George Tillbury, of this place, who proposes shortly starting for London, England to exhibit him. His favorite food so far is berries, and he drinks fresh milk with evident relish. By advice of Dr. Hannington raw meats have been withheld from Jacko, as to make him savage.
The mode of capture was as follows: Ned Austin, the engineer, on coming in sight of the bluff at the eastern end of No. 4 tunnel saw what he supposed to be a man lying asleep in close proximity to the track, and as thought, blew the signal to apply the brakes.
The brakes were instantly applied, and in a few seconds the train was brought to a standstill. At this moment the supposed man sprang up, and uttered a sharp quick bark, began to climb the steep bluff. Conductor R.J. Craig and express messenger Costerton, followed by the baggage men and brakemen, jumped from the train and knowing they were some twenty minutes ahead of time immediately gave chase.
After five minutes of perilous climbing the then supposed demented Indian was corralled on a projecting shelf of rock, where he could neither ascend or descend. The query was how to capture him alive, which was quickly decided by Mr. Craig, who crawled on his hands and knees until he was about forty feet above the creature.
Taking a small piece of loose rock he let it fall and it had the desired effect of rendering poor Jacko of resistence for a time at least. The bell rope was then brought up and Jacko was now lowered to terra firma. After Firmly binding him and placing in the baggage car 'off brakes' was sounded and the train started for Yale.
The station a large crowd who had heard of the capture by telephone from Spuzzum Flat were assembled, each one anxious to have the first look at the monstrosity, but they were disappointed, as Jacko had been taken off at the machine shops and placed in charge of his present keeper.
The question naturally arises, how came the creature where it was first seen by Mr. Austin? From bruises about its head and body, and apparently soreness since its capture, it is supposed that Jacko ventured too near the edge of the bluff, slipped, and fell and lay where found until the sound of the rushing train aroused him, Mr. Thos, White, and Mr. Gouin, C.E., as well as Mr. Major, who kept a small store about a half a mile west of the tunnel during the past two years, have mentioned having seen a curious creature at different pointsetween camps 13 and 17, but no attention was paid to their remarks as people came to the conclusion that they had either seen a bear or stray Indian dog.
Who can unravel the mystery that now surrounds Jacko? Does he belong to a species hitherto unknown in this part of the continent, or is he really what the trainmen first thought he was, a crazy Indian?
The article ends here, nothing more has been found since about this incident, or creature although it was believed that Jacko died during the voyage to England, and disposed of into the ocean as was customary of the time.

More official involvement in Sasquatch issue
This story has been around for some time, it was from the late Richard Grumley director of the California Bigfoot Organization, it is yet another example of official involvement in the subject of Bigfoot, and if true as would seem, then it gives us a glimpse into motivations for government involvement in this issue:
This was from Rich Grumley who was the director of the California Bigfoot Organization.
"In 1980-1981, I was working as a security guard on a high tension tower project here in California. I met a man who was a "cat skinner" operating a bulldozer, leveling off the pads where each of these high tension towers was to be placed. I noted he had on his pickup truck, 25-30 decals from places he had been hunting and introduced myself.
During the conversation I mentioned 'bigfoot' and he told me that in the mid to late 1970's he was doing a little poaching (with forestry officials permission in a locked and gated area near Bishop, California, they had given him a key so he could go in any time he wanted). This particular time the gate was still locked (as it always was); he let himself in with his four wheel drive pick up to the area known as Four Points.
He drove over a hill and there to his surprise were Department of the Interior vehicles and Bureau of Land management men all in their "Smokey the bear" outfits (with guns) searching a campground, the hills, mountains, roads, etc. They grabbed this hunter, took his deer rifle away from him and questioned him for 7-8 hours as to what he was doing there.
The local forestry officials identified him as a trusted friend and he was let go, but told to "Never come back", He had determined during his interrogation that the reason the BLM and Dept. of Interior were there in force was that a Bigfoot creature had gone through there the day before and had turned over a "large" trash container (of the type you find behind large department stores - dumpsters), that no man can even begin to move and had killed several people.
Over the years the story was passed through several people, in fact "quite a few" bigfoot researchers, but "no one" was able to come up with one single "clue".
Then in early to middle 1991, a young student also interested in investigating the Bigfoot mystery, called the C.F.B.O.'s hotline to tell me that he had heard that story several years ago and it had "always" stuck with him. He went on to relate that when he was doing some bigfoot research in the town of Bishop, California (Inyo County), area in 1989-90 he met a former policeman who said he was on the Bishop police force in the mid to late 1970's. The student related the foregoing story of Bigfoot to the ex-police officer from Bishop, and he confirmed it. The officer said the story was the talk of the law enforcement agencies in that area at the time, but they were under very tight orders not to say anything about the incident and the related deaths.

Wilkeson Washington elk killing 1980
This incident I investigated in 1980 was not a cover up, but its interesting since state game officials were involved in investigating the killing of two elk by at least one sasquatch. The following is my recounting of that incident:
One evening in 1980, an old family friend named Charles Welcome called me. He told me I should come to his house in the small town of Wilkeson Washington, he had something important to talk to me about. I said that I would come right away, and drove to Charley's home.
When I arrived, he told me he had official visitors earlier that day. I asked him who had visited him and why. He told me that the local fish and game officer had stopped by asking him if he had been hearing any strange animal screams at night, Charley had an idea what he was asking about but didn't say anything. He instead asked the officer why was he asking?
The game officer didn't answer at first, but knew Charley for a long time and decided to confide in him, he told Charley not to discuss this with anyone, and proceeded to relate the events of the previous day.
A mushroom picker had been in the forest a few miles in the mountainous area above Charley's house, and had come upon a grizzly site. This person happened upon the corpses of two elk, and immediately contacted game officials and reported what he found, at first thinking it was the work of poachers.
Game officers went to the location and were shocked by what they found. The game officer said the elk had been "dismembered without the use of tools".
He told Charley that quietly his superiors were talking about a Sasquatch, and that was what they were seriously looking for as what had torn the elk apart.
Charley never let on what he knew, and just told the officer if he heard or saw anything that he would notify the officials. The game officer thanked him and once again asked him not to talk about the incident with anyone, then left.
I decided to drive up to the site the next day when I had daylight to see better.
When I arrived at the location, the elk corpses had been removed, and it was not long before I did find sasquatch footprints, I photographed a number of them.
I didn't find any additional evidence, and went home. I never heard any more from Charley about the game departments involvement in the incident.
I sent a picture of one of the footprints to John Green in British Columbia, he said it was a pretty good track, but nothing more came of the incident. Since then the region around the small town of Wilkeson has been heavily logged. Sasquatch are still in that region, but no sightings have been reported in that area. I have not been able to locate anyone from the game department who will talk about that incident.
